Organising your Movies on a TVIX using a playlist

The options for storing and accessing content on your TVIX media player are pretty limited. For instance, if you categorised your videos under folders such as Action, Comedy, Horror, Musicals, Thrillers etc, some films might bridge more than one category and the only way of accessing this video content under these various headings would be to store the movie multiple times. By using playlists, it is possible to work around this but it is a very time consuming task.

Below is an example of how you might achieve this for Videos.

Example Standard Folder Structure

- - Video
- - - -All Movies
- - - - - -300
- - - - - - - -300.avi
- - - - - - - -folder.jpg
- - - - - -Alien
- - - - - - - -Alien.avi
- - - - - - - -folder.jpg
- - - - - -Aliens
- - - - - - - -Aliens CD1.avi
- - - - - - - -Aliens CD2.avi
- - - - - - - -folder.jpg
- - - - - -Bobby
- - - - - - - -Bobby.avi
- - - - - - - -folder.jpg
- - - - - -icon.tvix

As you can see, these videos could all be categorised in their various main categories of Action, Sci-Fi and Drama. Some could also be categorised in a Thriller category.

Potential Additional Playlist Structure

- -Video
- - - -Action
- - - - - - - -300.m3u
- - - - - - - -300.jpg
- - - - - - - -icon.tvix
- - - -Drama
- - - - - - - -Bobby.m3u
- - - - - - - -Bobby.jpg
- - - - - - - -icon.tvix
- - - -Thriller
- - - - - - - -300.m3u
- - - - - - - -300.jpg
- - - - - - - -Alien.m3u
- - - - - - - -Alien.jpg
- - - - - - - -Aliens.m3u
- - - - - - - -Aliens.jpg
- - - - - - - -icon.tvix
- - - -Sci-Fi
- - - - - - - -Alien.m3u
- - - - - - - -Alien.jpg
- - - - - - - -Aliens.m3u
- - - - - - - -Aliens.jpg
- - - - - - - -icon.tvix

By creating an icon.tvix file in each of the playlist directories, copying the folder.jpg file for that movie and renaming it to the <name-of-film>.jpg, this will now display the dvd box cover of the movie instead of just showing the playlist file. You could now browse multiple categoires and then only have to store the videos only once. Click here for more details of improving the user interface on a Tvix box
